Dishwasher Not Draining? Quick Fixes You Need to Know About

A dishwasher is one of the most used pieces of household equipment. Due to this, it experiences a lot of wear and tear over time. Hence, regular maintenance is essential if you want to maintain its longevity.

However, even if you are regular with maintenance, some issues can occur with its drainage because of all the oil and grease that are present in dirty dishes.

If you’ve identified that water is not draining properly from your dishwasher, here are a few things you need to fix quickly.

Check for Clogging in the Sump

Check the bottom of your dishwasher to see if anything is clogging the sump. First, remove stagnant water and the look for food residue, grease build-up, tissue paper build-up, and any other debris that may be causing a blockage.

If you can remove it easily, do so. Otherwise, call for professional help.

Clean off the Filter

The filter protects the lower spray arm at the bottom of the tub. Most dishwashers come with grinders to crush food leftovers and paper residue, but their tiny particle can still accumulate in the filter, forming larger build-ups. Remove any debris that you may across.

Check the Drain Hose

This is a rippled structure under the sink that’s between the dishwasher pump and drainage line. Analyze the hose properly and look for any twists and curves that might be blocking the water flow. Straighten any kinks that you find and if the drain hose is clogged, loosen it from the clamps and blow through the pipe. Anything clogging the pipe will be pushed out from the other end.

Clear the Air Gap

There’s a small yellow-colored cylinder located at the back of the kitchen sink. If water leaks from an air gap whenever you use the dishwasher, it means that something is clogging the space between that cylinder and the garbage disposal. Remove the lid to clean anything inside it that might be the reason for the clog.
